In October 2016, I went to NYC to demo a new lesson I've been developing with Cornell CCMR to teach classrooms for students ages 9-15 about Genomics. The visit consisted of directly teaching the lesson at the Harlem Promise Academy and presenting at a NYC teacher's workshop. Our goal is to enable teachers to bring these back to the classrooms and provide us with feedback on how we can better teach kids about genomics. I'm also proud to say that the lessons, which largely include experiments and interactive components, can be taught for less than $100 a classroom and with minimal technology. I will add the link to the lesson plan and experimental protocols to this site in the near future. The next lesson will be in gel electrophoresis.
